Greetings Healing Light Spiritualist Church Members and Friends, Well here are in 2020! Can you believe it...? I want to recap a few highlights from 2019. On April 1st we purchased our wonderful building and lots of work ensued. It felt good to be putting time, effort and a lot of elbow grease into something as wonderful as a Spiritual Healing Center. June 28th - 30th we hosted Master Maria Sunukjian, a disciple of Master Sha, who performed an energetic clearing on the building and property and then blessed our center. Master Maria gave us an introduction to Master Sha's teachings including, a Healing Orb Meditation, Sacred Divine Code, and Tao Chants. On July 5th we had our grand opening celebration which included great food and wonderful music by "Josh We Know". The energy was incredibly high even though we were all quite tired from working so hard. Also in July, we hosted friends and mediums from Scotland who gave wonderful mediumship demonstrations and taught some lovely classes in palmistry and foot reading. In August we had lots of music from "Josh We Know". Josh is so gifted! And we had, yoga, improv, chanting, writing and food fermenting classes. In September we hosted the Healing Light International week. Friends and mediums from England, Scotland, and Iceland gave us wonderful mediumship demonstrations and taught many classes including mental mediumship, psychic art, trance, physical phenomena, and psychic surgery. October through December we hosted mediums days, gallery readings, message circles, aura reading, and spoon bending classes. On December 22nd we held our first Christmas Candlelight service in our new building which was extremely well attended. We had refreshments after and the raffle tickets were drawn. I good time was had by all! Phew! We hit the ground running and have not stopped! We have been blessed with friends and members who share the same vision, a spiritual healing center that shines a beacon of light around the world from this little spot in Etna, Maine. With their continued help, we will soon need a bigger parking lot! We are looking for a black LL Bean winter jacket that was taken from the coat rack after the Christmas Candlelight service by mistake. The owner would very much like to have it back. There is a black jacket still on the rack that probably belongs to the person who picked up the LL Bean Jacket. If you own a black winter jacket please check to see if you may have taken the LL Bean one by mistake and when you are in church swap them out. Or call me, Rev. We have designated a smoking area at the rear of garage #3. That is the garage out front to the right of the main building. There is no cigarette butt receptacle so please take your cigarette butts with you. Thanks! Apartment available to rent. Spacious one bedroom and den, 1-1/2 bath, living room, dining room, and kitchen. Stove, refrigerator, washer, and dryer. The rent is $700.00 a month plus utilities. If you joined our church in the last quarter of the year, October, November or December of 2019, you will not need to pay dues until January 2021. Bonnie Lee Mellott has stepped into the treasurer's position and Rev. Michael Van Ginkel has stepped into the trustee position. Bonnie, and Michael, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and rest assured we will work closely with you to make sure you are comfortable with the work. We want to give a special thanks to Rev. Linda Holmes and Bruce Towel who were our treasurer and trustee since October 2018. They came on board and helped guide our decisions when things were quite watery, if I may put it like that. They helped the church grow through the purchase and remodeling of our building and helped guide the board as we took our first steps in hosting events and classes. We could not have done it without you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! We are pleased and happy to announce that we have added a new member to our church family, Robert Thompson. Welcome, Robert! As of January 2020, we have moved the mediumship development circle on Sunday to a new time. We now meet at 1:00 pm instead of 1:30 pm. This gives most people time to get home before dark. If you plan to attend church service first please feel free to bring your lunch. We have a refrigerator and microwave. You can also place an order from the Etna Village Variety and arrange to pick it up after church. If you want to develop your mediumship skills there is no better way than sitting in a development circle regularly. All levels of development are welcome in this group, beginners to advanced. Join us! By donation. Raffle tickets were drawn on December 22nd after our Christmas Candlelight service. Some wonderful gifts were given away, a beautiful quilt made by Thoy, a gorgeous quartz generator crystal donated by Gina Collins, readings, healing sessions, hypnosis CD's, some warm lap afghans, a lovely wreath made by Michele Mcpherson, and many other items. Dr. Janet Decker is an ordained minister in the Spiritualist Chuch, the Metaphysical Church, and she holds a doctorate in Metaphysical Studies. She is a certified clinical, forensic, and spiritual hypnotherapist and a certified psychic medium and spiritual counselor. She is Dean of Metaphysical Studies for the International Metaphysical University where she also teaches psychic development and paranormal studies. Michael actively participates in spiritual workshops and study groups in order to pass on the knowledge that Spirit has brought forth for him. Michael works with the Angels and finds that it is usually Uriel and Metatron who come to him because of his thirst for knowledge. Michael lives in Winthrop. Dawn Wilbur is a member of The Healing Light Spiritualist Church. She is a Reiki Master trained in Integrated Energy therapy and has been delivering messages from spirit during her healing sessions for some time. She has been delivering messages from spirit to the general public for approximately 2 years. Dawn lives in Frankfurt with her husband, son, small livestock of chickens and their yellow lab. Christopher Brown has been aware of Spirit all around us from a very young age. His guides led him to paranormal investigation and from that, he discovered his potential as a medium. Christopher has been giving messages professionally for 2 years. Comfort, healing, and evidence of the continuity of life are his focus. He attends psychic fairs and paranormal events throughout Maine to help build awareness of mediumship and spirituality. Christopher is writing a book about his journey and perspective on living a spiritual life and his discovery of mediumship. Christopher is a Certified Reiki Master/teacher and is studying Shamanism. He lives in Jefferson with his fiance’ and 2 children. Ava Spruce is a member of HLSC. She is a Reiki practitioner in the Usui System of Healing. Ava is a creative and loving soul who has been seeing, hearing and feeling spirit from a very young age. She began Mediumship Development classes at age 15 with her father and has been taking these classes now for over 30 years. Ava enjoys serving area churches as speaker and medium and her focus is on sharing love and light. Classes - Workshops - Events Full moon Ceremony When: Friday, January 10, 2020 Time: 7:00 pm Where: Healing Light Spiritual center, 38 Stage Rd Etna, ME What: Full Moons are big peaks, a time to go with the momentum. And that simply means concentrating your energy on a symbolic or real action. All of nature grows and is more vital at the full Moon. The full moon is a crescendo and sometimes brings on a reckoning, or a moment of truth. It's associated with illumination since it lights up the dream time landscape. Sometimes full moons feel like the end of an act in your ongoing life story. It's like in a movie where all the plot points are pulled together, and for a brief moment, you can see the interwoven whole. If you set intentions, the full Moon is a time when you begin to make out the path and can take an exciting step forward. It is both a culmination and a time to act on something you've imagined. These messages often facilitate and an amazing amount of healing, clarity, peace, and proof of existence after death. Greetings Healing Light Spiritualist Church Members and Friends, Ahhhh, winter in Maine! So far we had to cancel 3 out of 4 Sundays in January. I really, REALLY enjoy church service and the mediumship circle that is held after church every Sunday, so missing 3 Sundays in a row is, for me, a major bummer. However, I endeavor to persevere as I look forward to spring and find solace in the quietude of winter. We held several terrific events that the weather did not interfere with. The full moon ceremony on January 10th, the energy healing class on January 24th in the afternoon, and gallery readings on January 24th in the evening. All of the events were well attended and we met some wonderful new folks. It is always great to see new people in church or at an event we hold. Many who show up are new to spiritualism and for me, it is an honor and a privilege to introduce them to the beauty and wisdom of our religion. As we move through winter let us keep our hearts and minds on the many blessings we have in our lives and enjoy the downtime that winter brings us. Greetings Healing Light Spiritualist Church Members and Friends, Yay, it's March! Spring is just around the corner and with the mild winter we've had I am hopeful that spring weather will actually happen in March instead of the end of April or the first of May, as is usual in these parts. Fingers crossed on that one! Many people suffer from depression during the winter here in Maine. SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder, is common in geographical areas where the winters are long. I am one of the people who suffer from this disorder and the reason I am sharing this with the readers of our newsletter is that I want others to know that the one thing that gets me through the Maine winters is the church. The combination of the church service, and the mediumship group after that, lift me up and make me feel really good. Quite literally Sundays lift me out of the depression. Seeing the folks in our spiritual community, chatting with them, giving and receiving hugs and smiles from everyone on Sunday mornings is an absolute 10 on my list and this is no exaggeration. Sundays give me a boost which helps carry me through the week. Spending Sunday with my spiritual family is not just something I enjoy, it is something I need. The people who are drawn to our beloved Healing Light Church are as genuine as they come. They are authentic in their love, compassion, caring, and kindness and they readily share this energy with everyone. Personally, I need a shot of that every week. I absolutely do. It is the energy of the people who come every Sunday that keeps me going throughout the winter months. I could not get through the winter without you. Greetings Healing Light Spiritualist Church Members and Friends, As everyone knows our lives have been turned upside down. Nothing is the same as it was just 3 weeks ago and it is likely that it will never be the same again. Rest assured, things will definitely be different when the "dust settles". However, "different" does not necessarily mean wrong or bad. Different simply means different. Your own thinking will determine if your experience is positive or negative. For those of us who can make a "silk purse out of a sow's ear" I want to give you something really monumental to ponder. Let me tell you who we are. (This is an excerpt from the inspirational talk I gave in church on March 15th) "There is a minority of people on the planet who will provide the basis for the evolution of the human species. We are the "Seed Stock", the odd souls, who will, in the grand evolutionary process, emerge out of the general population in a not so distant future to become the progenitors of both a new race and a new world. What will determine if you are a part of the "Seed Stock" is the path you choose from this moment forward." (John Petersen - Futurist)... I told you it was monumental. You may want to read that again. There are approximately 18 Futurists around the globe and I follow one of them whose name is John Petersen. He made the above statement. This is what he said in December 2019. I paraphrase, "In the entire history of our world, nothing like what is about to happen has ever happened before. The paradigm shift we are about to experience is very different than the one that affected the entire known world beginning in the year 1450 (the invention of the printing press). This current paradigm shift is not just a punctuation mark on the biological/technological curve, it is a jump to a whole new state of being. It is the beginning of the most significant era in human history. The things coming at us are not just a byproduct of "stuff" or "trends" that have happened before, It is all new." John Petersen said that in December and he was so right. Not one single person on the planet has ever experienced what we are now experiencing. This is completely new territory. We could claim the line from Star Trek "going where no man has gone before". Forbes Magazine says, “The next 5 years will see more change than in all of human history which is about 200,000 years. This is a global shift, folks. It is a major punctuation point in the evolutionary development of the human species. The nature of this shift is so profound that it dictates that you look at and question everything that is out there. Take no one's word about anything, not even mine. I only want to provoke new thinking, not give you any answers. According to extraterrestrial sources, we have reached this point 4 times in our past and when we got to this point we failed. This time, according to these same sources, we have passed. Screwed up as it all seems, we've passed. Use your "soul knowing" to help you get through these difficult times. Remember, it is not just this lifetime we are re-balancing, it is the whole of our existence from the time we were cast. We are doing that now, re-balancing the whole of our existence, in these very trying times. It is time to reconnect with your soul essence in order to become a "New Human", and we must do this! We are contained on this earth in this dimension because of the fear we have. The fear keeps us locked in. When we lose the fear we will evolve. Greetings Healing Light Spiritualist Church Members and Friends, It seems that since the last newsletter nothing has changed and yet, things have changed a great deal. I have largely taken the stance of "Observer" during this lockdown. I have observed people trying really hard to be okay with it. I see them being creative on social media and doing nice things for each other. I see nature coming out now that human beings have been inside. Lions laying on the roads in Africa, dolphins swimming in the canals of Venice, mountain goats coming down into the towns of Italy. Skies are clear and the air is cleaner and it appears that the earth has responded well to this reprieve from human activity. But, we cannot stay inside forever so what next? This is precisely the question I ask the Masters every day, what next? Where do we go from here? I always get the same answer, "You go one day at a time, that is where you go." They say we have the opportunity to reshape the world and how it operates but we must step up to the plate. So what does stepping up to the plate look like? Some suggestions might be that once the lockdown is over continue to be kind to each other and to the earth. Drive less by grocery shopping with a neighbor taking only one car. If you are able to, walk or bicycle to events and church services or again, go with others taking only one car. If you are able, try growing some of your own food. The less we depend on food from other states and countries the better. Get to know your local farmers and growers and buy from them. I have been doing this for years and I do so prefer locally grown food! Go in together with a family member, friend, or neighbor and buy beef, pork, chicken, lamb, eggs, milk, etc.. By buying local you can observe whether or not the animals that provide you with sustenance are respectfully and kindly raised in the fresh air and sunshine. Ask yourself every day, what can I do today to help someone have a better day? Sometimes just a phone call will do it. And above all, be grateful. When you are truly grateful you will be provided with even more to be grateful for. Peace and love to all, Rev. Greetings Healing Light Spiritualist Church Members and Friends, It has been 11 weeks since we have been allowed to gather for a church service and it seems like an eternity to me. I don't know about you but I am having serious withdrawal symptoms! I find it interesting that during the Corvid 19 lock-down church services were deemed "nonessential". Throughout time the church is what has held people together in a crisis. Through the worst of times, people have gathered together in their houses of worship to be uplifted, strengthened, and encouraged to stay strong. It was not just the words of the pastors that kept folks going but also the music and I think most of all, it was the support of the congregants for each other. Folks talking to each other, telling their story and someone there to listen, feel compassion, and give support. Someone to understand your fear, grief, anger, and anxiety because they are experiencing the same thing. In my opinion, there has been nothing our government has done in my lifetime that is more fundamentally wrong than closing the churches. Yes, these are times of unprecedented change, however, some things do not change and the spiritual and emotional needs of human beings are two of them. Should this ever happen again, and we certainly pray it does not, if you find that you are feeling sad, depressed, lonely or scared please do reach out. The pastors, the board of directors, and many of our church family are happy to lend an ear and even a helping hand should you need it. Never, ever hesitate! All that being said, it is now time to move on and move on we are! The Healing Light Spiritual Center will open on June 6th with Medium's Day, and church services will resume on June 7th. Mediumship development classes resume after church on June 7th, and events and workshops are scheduled throughout June and July. Details on all HLSC happenings are listed below. We have a refrigerator, a microwave, and a toaster oven so please do bring your lunch, and let's enjoy eating a meal together. The Mediumship Development group will resume on June 7th at 1:30 pm. Talking with spirit and angels can be a saving grace. In these times of unprecedented change, we need all the help we can get! Beginner, intermediate and advanced students are welcome. By donation. Greetings Healing Light Spiritualist Church Members and Friends, On July 5th we will celebrate the one year anniversary of the Healing Light Spiritual Center. And what an interesting year it has been! We started by purchasing the building on April 1st, 2019. Then followed megatons of cleaning, painting, repairing, and renovations to bring the building up to code. The result was nothing short of amazing and what an incredible transformation! In three short months, our building came alive! On July 5th, 2019 we had our grand opening and over 40 people helped us celebrate a job well done. Spirit and angels were out in force from the moment we decided to purchase the building, guiding us every step of the way. We will be forever grateful to them and the beautiful souls in human form who gave so much of their time, and energy, pouring love and hard work into the project. I know their hearts are as full as mine when they look at the results of their labor. It is amazing what can be accomplished when people come together as a unified whole to bring about change. Let us pray for our world. Let us pray that people the world over will come together as a unified whole, united by love for a peaceful and positive transformation. What can be done in the microcosm, such as with HLSC, can be done in the macrocosm. Make no mistake about that! Greetings Healing Light Spiritualist Church Members and Friends, To say that we live in interesting times is an understatement. The energy across the planet is chaotic and here in the U.S., it is especially chaotic because it is an election year and it appears that people are particularly polarized to the left or to the right. We are also polarized concerning Covid 19 and how it is being handled. Because of the intensity of all this, It can be very difficult to stay balanced. It is a major challenge for every one of us to be sure. One thing that keeps coming to me is, this is all an illusion. One of my all-time favorite books is entitled "Illusions" by Richard Bach. It is a short, interesting and easy read and I recommend it highly. I have read this book at least 10 times over the past 30 years. I keep rereading it because it brings things back into focus for me when things are horribly out of focus. I think it is time for me to read it once again. I remind myself daily, sometimes many times throughout each day, that if I get caught up in the chaotic energy then I am actually contributing to the chaos. Also, I remind myself daily, again, sometimes many times each day, that I get back what I give out. If I am in emotional turmoil about what is going on in our country then emotional turmoil will be returned to me... and I certainly do not need that! It seems like even when I am calm and at peace, it is all too easy for a friend or a family member, or something I am reading or watching, to knock me off-center, and the first thing you know I am caught up in it. If this is happening to you as well then I have a suggestion for you, remain, to the best of your ability, self-aware at all times. As soon as you notice you have been knocked off-center take a deep breath and gently remind yourself to return to a state of calm. Try to remember that being anything other than calm and peaceful is of no benefit to you or anyone else. Also, that calm and peaceful energy is exactly what is needed now more than ever before. As you feel it you are sending it out to the world. Let us pray for our country and our world. Let us pray that people the world over will come together as a unified whole, united by the love of the One Infinite Creator. Let us pray that truth and guidance are revealed and let us pray for the most benevolent outcome possible for every soul. Bright blessings to all, Rev. Our presenters from Scotland and England are unable to get flights into the U.S. and our presenters from Canada are not allowed to cross the border at this time. Greetings HLSC Members and friends, As most everyone knows by now I am moving South and becoming a snowbird. As a result, I am lovingly gifting the spiritual leadership of our beloved church to Rev. Michael Van Ginkel. Rev. Michael was a terrific ordination student and he is a wonderful pastor, as I knew he would be. Rev Michael is a natural for this position. I say that not just because he does a nice job leading the services but also because he continues to read and study and grow his spiritual knowledge. Most, not all but most, people who step up to be pastors of a church have been spiritual leaders in other lifetimes. Their calling is strong and most of what they read will be books and papers of a spiritual nature. There is a hunger in them that never seems to be squelched or satisfied. Michael has this hunger and honestly, I feel very good about having him step into my shoes. It feels right. During my 6 years as the spiritual leader of the Healing Light Spiritualist Church, I learned how to be steady at the helm while negotiating turbulent waters and a myriad of personalities. I learned NOT to take things personally. I learned how to “APPEAR” calm, cool, and collected even if I wasn’t and I learned to take a step back, breathe deeply, be patient and let the universe work things out. Although I am not yet an expert at being patient and letting the universe work things out I do hope I can take what I’ve learned so far into my next lifetime! I have always said, “We should live our lives so that people and the earth will truly miss us when we are gone.” And even though I am not leaving for good I believe I will be missed during the months I am not here. I know one thing for sure, I will truly miss all of you. I will miss being in church every Sunday. I will miss the hugs and the smiles, and the laughs, the tears, and the talks. I will miss walking into our building every Sunday and thinking, my God how did this happen? It is a miracle! The right people finding each other and attracting the right building at just the right time, and how did I get so lucky as to be a part of it? I have been the lead pastor of this church since 2014 and I met and have worked with some wonderfully spiritual people. I met my spiritual family and spent time helping to grow a spiritual community that I know will grow and thrive well into the future. It has been an honor to serve you and this church. I thank you for putting your faith and trust in me. For if this position commands nothing else it commands faith and trust, and believe me, I do not take that lightly. Your faith and trust in me gave me a platform for growth, it helped me to become a better person. It opened my eyes to what “CAN BE” and made me want to accomplish that for you and for me. Greetings HLSC Members and Friends, And so we have arrived in November. November is a month we set aside to give thanks to the Creator and to Mother Earth for her bounty...and it is good that we do this. In our busy schedules, we seldom take time to look at the big picture. We go grocery shopping without giving a thought as to how all that food got there in the first place. If you are a farmer or gardener you likely give thanks daily and you likely find wonder in the miracle of "growing things." I know I always did. But for those who are not gardeners and farmers thinking about how the food gets to us is, for the most part, out of our awareness. Celebrating the harvest with Thanksgiving brings our focus to the miracle and wonder of life. This November brings us something altogether different as well. The 2020 elections. I feel compelled to tell you who the winner will be. Drum roll, please... you are the winner! You are the winner if on November 3rd you go to bed intending to wake up feeling peaceful the next day. No matter who wins the election, you are the winner! Sounds a bit hokey I know, but the reality is, it is true. We cannot control the outcome of the election nor whatever transpires after it but we can raise our vibration so that whatever happens we feel at peace with ourselves and the world around us. This is possibly the greatest blessing anyone can receive. I ask for the blessing of peace for each and every one of us, Rev. Greetings HLSC Members and Friends, During this time of peace on earth goodwill toward men, it "appears" that there is no peace to found anywhere. Ahhhh, but this is an illusion! Peace is as close as the very air you breathe. I will take this opportunity to remind you that peace is found within. If you want to experience "true and lasting peace" you should first seek it by going within. Her's how. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and relax. Let your mind take you to a place that brings you a sense of peace. You may envision being by the ocean or in the mountains or by a lake or this peaceful place may be your own backyard. Once you find that peaceful place and can feel a sense of peace allow yourself to dwell there for as long as you can, then think to yourself, "I will feel this wonderful sense of peace even when I am no longer in this place." Repeat that statement to yourself several times, feeling the peace as you think it. Bring yourself back to the present moment and feel the peace as it lingers. Do this as often as you can because the more you do it the closer you get to experiencing "the peace that passes all understanding" all day long every day. I ask for the blessing of "peace that passes all understanding", for each and every one of us. Rev.
