December 2014 Newsletter
We hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving at that you are pacing yourself now that the holiday season is upon us. Remember to take some time for yourself whenever possible, even if only 15 minutes here and there.
This publication of the Healing Light Church is the first of what we hope will be regular monthly mailings. At least this is our goal. If you do not want to receive our newsletter please just "reply" with "Unsubscribe" in the heading we will make sure you don't get any more.
Now for the news!
On December 7th Our Lead Pastor, Donna Williams, is stepping down after 10 years of selfless service. She has been untiring and steadfast in her service to the Healing Light Church community. We feel extreme gratitude to Donna for all she has done and wish her every happiness in the days and years ahead. THANK YOU DONNA! Please note, though, Donna isn't going anywhere. She will be serving on the pastoral council as one of the co-pastors. We are thrilled she still wants to hang around with us.
There are some wonderful changes/additions coming to the Healing Light Church. This newsletter will give you a brief overview of what we have planned.
1) We are establishing a pastoral council which, to start off with, will include 5 people. They are, Rev. Janet Decker who will be the Lead Pastor for the church, Pastor Wachian Welch who is a Spiritualist Minister in training, Pastor Laurie Xanthos, Pastor Donna Williams and Pastor Dee Powers. Each person brings something special to our church and it is thrilling to have such a terrific group of people who are willing to serve. A big THANK YOU! goes out to each of them.
2) We are putting together an Ordination Program for those who feel called to this service. We have not yet worked out all the details, however, it should be fully up and running in January. At least that is the goal.
3) We are developing a Healing Certification program. We hope to have more information on this program after the first of the year.
December Schedule of Events:
On Dec. 7th there will be a members meeting after the pot luck. Whether you are already a member or considering becoming a member please come, bring a dish to share, and stay for the meeting afterward.
December 21st is the solstice and we will be holding a Yule ceremony in place of the normal church service. To the ancient cultures the winter solstice was extremely important because it marked the return of the Sun. At midnight on the winter solstice the days, at last, stop growing shorter and begin to grow longer. This day was considered the start of the new year to many of our ancestors.
At the winter solstice the energies are especially conducive to releasing that which no longer serves us and establishing in our hearts and minds something new. New year, new start. To assist us in releasing the old and bringing in the new we will do a ceremony. In the spirit of our ancient ancestors let us join together to welcome the return of the sun and new beginnings!
Ongoing: The Mediumship development group meets Sundays at 1:30. We meet at Janet Decker's cottage on the Camp Etna grounds. It is open to all.
A big THANK YOU to Peter Conroy for updating our church membership roster and for editing and sending out our church newsletter. It would be very helpful to have every members email address. If you are receiving this newsletter via snail mail then we do not have your email address so please see Peter or Barb Dolliver so we can include you in our electronic mailing. It truly does save the church much needed funds. Thank you.
It is the Yule tide season and the spirit of giving is upon us. As many of you know Rose and Bud Rideout have taken in 5 children whom they have been caring for for appropriately 3 months. The children range in age from 4 to 11. There are 4 girls and one boy. Our church family has reached out to help Bud and Rose in any way we can. If you feel it in your heart to help these children have a nice Christmas, contributions in the way of clothing and toys, or if you don't like to shop, money, would be greatly appreciated. Gifts may be placed on the table in the back of the church and contributions of money can be given directly to Bud and Rose or to Barb Dolliver. May the light and love of the One Infinite Creator bless you for your kindness and generosity.
Toy Conroy has donated to the church an assortment of beautiful hand made bags. You will see them displayed in the church on Sunday mornings. These bags are truly lovely and all money collected from the sale of these bags will go to Bud and Rose. They are very reasonably priced at $15.00 for the large bag and $10.00 for the medium. For those who don't know Toy she is extremely gifted as a quilter and a healer. You can feel the incredible energy she puts into everything she makes. If you purchase one of these bags you will feel the energy every time you carry it. How wonderful is that?!
In the spirit of giving the Healing Light Church is donating $100.00 to the Mid Maine homeless shelter. The shelter is in need of many things. If you have items you would like to donate please bring them to church on any Sunday. Dee Powers will see that they get to the shelter. Thank you Dee!
