Healing Light Spiritualist Church
July News Letter
News!, News!, News
Summer is in full swing and we are ever grateful for the wonderful warm, and sometimes HOT, weather. Also, we are extremely grateful for the great food that we grow and harvest during the warm months and those we share it with. Winter will come round again soon enough so let's enjoy being outside and eating!!!
To recap June:
On June 21st we held a Solstice Ceremony during church. Holding ceremony is a wonderful way to welcome each season and to honor our world and her many forms and beings.
On June 28th we held the last service at the Etna Town Hall. The hall served us well for 10 years and we are grateful to the town of Etna for its use.
On Saturday, July 4th at 7 PM, there will be a drumming and sacred dance circle in the Temple on the Camp Etna grounds.
Drumming and dancing are fabulous during times of transition. The combination of rhythm and movement helps to release the past with gratitude in our hearts and ushers in the future with good vibrations. It is the perfect way to set the stage for new beginnings. All are welcome!
On July 5th we hold our first church service in our new home, the Temple at Camp Etna. Afterward there will be a pot luck and barbeque along with cake and ice cream. Music provided by Joshua Peters Childers! Please bring a dish to share and join us for the celebration! Feel free to bring a friend and please do pass this invitation along to those who would enjoy the celebration. The more the merrier!
After the pot luck and BBQ please join the Family Discussion Lyceum. This is the first of a 9 week discussion group on each of the 9 Spiritualist Principles along with some of the history of spiritualism. Principle #1 - We believe in Infinite Intelligence. Come, discuss, share, and learn!
Many wonderful renovations to the Temple have been completed. Although much has been accomplished already there is still some work to be done.
Renovations to date:
1) A new road/driveway was built from our parking lot beside the Temple and around the front of the temple. People with disabilities can be dropped off at the front door where the handicap ramp is. We are in the process of finding the perfect name for this road. If you have a suggestion please let us know.
If you are driving yourself and need assistance someone will be available to help you into the Temple and they will park your car for you. Valet parking, how great is that!
2) Stone has been laid on the new parking lot and driveway
3) New steps have been built in the front and in the rear of the Temple
4) Mold remediation has been completed
5) New chairs have been installed
6) Repairs to the Temple floor have been made
7) Cracks in the Temple foundation have been patched and the foundation has been painted
8) The walls and floor have been painted and new curtains will be hung
Still to be completed:
1) Foaming underneath the Temple floor
2) Heating and air conditioning installation
These 2 things are slated for completion on or around July 15th.
I can't wait for everyone to see the transformation that has taken place. It is fabulous!
Camp Season has begun! Check the Camp Etna web site for up to date information regarding classes, readings and workshops:

There are sooooo many “thank yous” going out this month that I hardly know where to begin... but I'll try.
A BIG THANK YOU to Ken Kroesser for building the new road and laying down stone.
A BIG THANK YOU to Don and Diane Skolfield and Karleen Tanner for improvements made to the Temple. Steps, painting, floor repair, foundation repair and other assorted wonderful things.
A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped with moving us out of the town hall and into the Temple.
A BIG THANK YOU to Janice, Dee, Marcia and her friend, Glenda, Wachian, Angie, Donna, Rosy, Kelly, Cathy Mac and myself for cleaning the Temple, moving pews into storage, setting up chairs and moving panels to create a quiet space within the temple for mediation or healing.
A BIG THANK YOU to our gardeners, Diane, Dee and Marcia who so lovingly planted beautiful flowers and other assorted plants around the temple.
A BIG THANK YOU to those who supplied the flowers and plants.
A BIG THANK YOU to the Camp Etna board and the Camp Etna members for all their considerable efforts on behalf of the HLSC.
A BIG THANK YOU to the board of the HLSC and the Pastoral Council for their work and devotion to bringing us to this new beginning.
I also thank those folks who could not physically help us with all this work but did their part by sending up prayers of good wishes and ENERGY! It was, and continues to be, appreciated.
If I missed anyone please forgive me and know that we are grateful beyond words for your help.
As I watched, and assisted with, getting the temple ready and moving our church from one place to another, I was extremely aware of, and grateful for, our Spiritualist community. Two sayings come to mind, "Many hands make light work.", and, "It takes a village". It is so true. Our community is a blessing and I love being able to say this and truly mean it. I am grateful for the souls who during this time of transition have demonstrated that they understand the meaning behind the above quotes. Truly, my heart is overflowing with love and gratitude for each and every one of you.
A reminder, you can now send us prayer requests from our web site; You will find the form on the “Contact Us” page.
Mark your calendars for the first Sunday of every month. This is our Pot Luck Sunday. Come, enjoy the service and share some food and conversation after.
The Mediumship Development group is taking a break for the summer. We will begin meeting again in September. See you then!
The Mid Maine homeless shelter is always in need of many things. If you have items you would like to donate just bring them to church on any Sunday. (PLEASE, no unwashed clothing articles, no clothing with pet hair, and no clothing with holes in them).
Here is a list of supplies they could use:
Diapers - all sizes
Toilet tissues, paper towels, and tissues
All Purpose cleaner
Paper plates, cups, and napkins (square)
HE laundry detergent
Ziploc bags and aluminum foil
Food storage containers
Grocery store gift certificates
Soap, shampoo, and conditioner
Feminine products (pads and tampons)
Toothpaste and toothbrushes
Razors and shaving cream
Coffee (regular; decaf) and creamer
Sugar and drink mixes
Canned and non-perishable foods
Both Etna and Canaan Fire Departments need sweat pants and sweat shirts to give out to people who, during a fire, are forced to flee their homes with no more than the shirt on their backs. It is not necessary to buy new. Clean, used items in good condition are very welcome. Please bring them to the church on any Sunday. Children’s sweats are also needed.
To all who have contributed in the past, or will contribute in the future, to any of the above causes, your gifts are truly a blessing. Thank you.
