Happy June Everyone,
Ahhhhh, June already and the Summer Solstice is at hand! The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year and it always seems to come and go too quickly. At least for me it does.
In a NYT article from June 2011 they talk about the "mourning" that takes place the day after the solstice as everyone prepares for the coming winter, as opposed to, preparing for the hot days of summer.
To me, this was quite strange as I, personally, have never thought of the Summer Solstice as a time to start preparing for winter. For me the Solstice marks the beginning of the cherished warm, to increasingly hot days, and the joys of working in the garden, taking walks without a coat, children playing outside, visiting with friends at camp, drinking lemonade on the porch, and yes, although I hate to mention it, bugs...UGH!
What is your view of the Summer Solstice? Is it like mine, or do you tend to think like the writer of the NYT article? Whatever your thoughts on the Solstice let us celebrate it for it comes only once a year.
Now the News
A Summer Solstice ceremony will be held during the church service on June 19th. Come join us as we welcome summer and honor the change of seasons.
A church board meeting was held on May 22nd at Donna and Barbara's house on the Camp Etna grounds. I am happy to report that the Healing Light Spiritualist Church now has 7 new members; Ruth Nickerson, Michael and Janet McNerney, Amber Herbst, Elizabeth Niles, Sherwood Denham and Kelly Callan. The pastors and the board of the HLSC bid you a HUGE WELCOME!
There will be a Spiritualist Philosophies class on July 24th, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM, place TBA. This class is required for new members, so everyone who has joined our church since December of 2014 need to attend. Although new members are required to attend everyone is welcome. There should be lots of interesting discussion.
July 3rd marks the one year anniversary of our church moving to the Temple on the Camp Etna grounds. We thank spirit every day for creating an opportunity to be located in such a lovely building on grounds that are steeped in Spiritualist history. Lets celebrate with cake!
Looking ahead, the HLSC will hold their Mediums Day fund raiser on Saturday, October 1, 2016, on the Camp Etna grounds. Mediums and healers are needed. We like to feed our volunteers so donations of food are also welcome. Please consider helping the church in one of these capacities. Thank you!

The pastoral council and the church board of directors is open to hear suggestions that may improve our church and make it an even more inviting place of peace, and a sanctuary from the rigors of daily life. Please feel free to approach us or send us an email if you have a suggestion. The church council members are: Pastor Dee Powers, Chris Couture, Rev. Wachian Welch, Barbara Dolliver, and Marcia Ruland.
