Protestants claimed man didn't need a priest to talk to God (Luther, 1517AD), the founder of the Shakers, Mother Ann Lee had visions (1747), Mesmer used animal magnetism for healings (1774), and Swedenborg spoke with spirits and angels during meditations (1787).
